I like using notebooking as a form of narration in our Charlotte Mason styled homeschool. My preference is to use blank notebooking pages or to make our own, but I also enjoy History Scribe retail notebooking pages. Why do I like History Scribe? My daughter is creative and loves to sketch. If I give her a notebooking page with graphics on it, she generally feels disappointed. After all, in her … [Read more...] about History Scribe Notebooking Pages Review
A Journey Through Learning
A Journey Through Learning is a fairly new lapbook company to me. This year, I've completed two of their units and used a third for reference - and I have to tell you how impressed I've been! Lapbooking is something I've been doing for quite some time, but I've never come across a pre-made unit organized quite so well. This is especially helpful for those who have never used lapbooks before, … [Read more...] about A Journey Through Learning
Horizons Math
One of the few curriculum choices that we haven't changed in our two years of homeschooling is our math program. What I Like About Horizons Math: Spiral Approach - Because of having some children who has difficulty with new concepts, … [Read more...] about Horizons Math
Happy Scribe Copybooks
Based on my conversations with other homeschoolers over the years, we have mixed opinions about the importance of handwriting instruction within our homeschools. Why do I bother to teach my children cursive handwriting in this age of e-mail, texts, and instant messaging? My children need to be able to read the cursive handwriting of others. For example, they will need to be able to read both … [Read more...] about Happy Scribe Copybooks

Webster’s 1828 Dictionary
This is the first dictionary of the American English language. Written by Noah Webster, considered the founding father of American Christian education, this dictionary is an important asset to any homeschool library. I refer to it in our studies daily and Mr. Webster’s definitions have spurred many rabbit trails and offered a lot of insight. The green pages in the front of the book are a … [Read more...] about Webster’s 1828 Dictionary
Latin for Children, Primer A
When I first attempted to use this curriculum, I had only the Primer. Boy was I lost! In fact, I was ready to simply toss the book in the trash until I realized there are other parts that go along with the Primer - like an Answer Key, an Activity Book, a Latin Reader, and most importantly (to me anyway) the DVD Lessons and Chant CD's. Yes, I felt like quite a dingbat once I realized how much … [Read more...] about Latin for Children, Primer A

Hands-on History Fun
For some of us the idea of doing hands-on projects with our children can be daunting. I am neither crafty nor artistic, and I don't enjoy making and cleaning up messes during the course of our school day. However, I have come to the conclusion that with a little bit of forethought and planning, including hands-on activities in our history lessons can be painless and fun. Most importantly, the … [Read more...] about Hands-on History Fun
The Mighty Works of God: Self Government
History textbooks have a tendency to be boring, but I discovered a series of about American history to treasure. These books do not contain dry lists of dates or a simple retelling of events. Instead, they focus on the causes behind events: people and Providence. The Mighty Works of God consists of three volumes for the early elementary years. They are not listed by grade-level, but gradually … [Read more...] about The Mighty Works of God: Self Government
