As we plan our nature study for the upcoming year, why not spend a bit of time looking at some of our planet’s endangered animals fighting to survive? Red Alert! 15 Endangered Animals Fighting to Survive has been written by Catherine Barr and illustrated by Anne Wilson. It is available from Amazon in the UK and the USA for £13.54 and $16.17 respectively.
The Curriculum Choice and Otter-Barry Books are giving away a lovely children’s book this month to one reader.
Red Alert! 15 Endangered Animals Fighting to Survive
My youngest daughter loved the choose-your-adventure books when she was young. She loved that she could pick an option and then turn to the suggested page to continue her adventure. This book has that same sort of feel. The young reader gets to pick a favourite place then turn to the page, choose a creature that lives there and then learn about that creature and the dangers it faces in our modern world.
Red Alert! is inspired by The International Union of conservations of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List of threatened species. From the Blue Whale to the Peacock Tarantula. Each of the 15 creatures featured in this book has a little story for us to read which teaches us a little about it.
There are some facts which are fun to learn and share such as – did you know that the Blue Whale has arteries so big that a toddler could crawl along them?
A Box alerts us to the dangers the creature faces, then you are instructed (as per the choose-your-adventure method) to go to page XYZ to find out how you can help that creature.
This lovely children’s book is a great springboard to inform our children of the threats some of the earth’s creatures face. At the back of the book is a full list of endangered animals, each with a story to tell. The young reader can visit the IUCN’s website to discover more fascinating creatures, why they are endangered and what they can do to help.
Why not enter our giveaway? Otter-Barry Books books have kindly given us one copy of this educational book to give away to one of our readers. Please do hop on over and visit their website to see what other titles they have.
