Math is one of those subjects we love to hate. Getting kids counting can be seemingly easy, but hit those math facts and many struggle to gain fluency with them. XtraMath is a website that can help you, help your kids master their math facts.
What Is XtraMath?
Today I am sharing with you one of my favorite math websites, XtraMath.org. It is a FREE, web-based math facts fluency program. XtraMath is a nonprofit organization supported by grants and donations, dedicated to helping students learn addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.
How XtraMath Works
XtraMath is an online math fact fluency program that helps students develop quick recall and automaticity of basic math facts. You start by choosing the program that is right for your child and they begin with a pretest and are given a starting score. Each day they begin with a Progress Quiz to try to earn points and then play Race the Teacher to practice the facts they need to work on, with a few others thrown in to keep their skills sharp.
XtraMath For the Parent:
Sign up is free and easy and allows for multiple students. It offers different programs to meet your child(ren)’s needs. There are are low cost upgraded programs if you want to have more features and support.
There are no advertisements on the page, allowing the student to focus on their math facts. As a parent, I do not have to worry about inappropriate content making its way into my home.
You will receive a parent username and password that will give you access to each of your student’s progress. You also receive an email once a week with progress reports. You can access their detailed progress report at any time by visiting the student progress reports.
XtraMath For the student:
After trying flashcards and other online programs, this has been my boys’ favorite. I usually don’t even have to remind them to log in each day to do their math facts. They love the challenge of the program and really work hard to improve their score each time. They celebrate when they get multiple facts in a row or their score goes up significantly.
The activities are simple and straightforward taking only a few minutes to complete each day.
My 5th grader completed the program this year and received a printable certificate saying so. He was so pleased!
